Coming home!

Aaaaaaaand now for ANOTHER update on this year’s Project 365….

Day 214 (2012-08-01) ~  I've said it before and I'll say it again: the trees in Seattle remind me of Oscar the Grouch!  All that lush, green moss looks a lot like fur sometimes.

Day 215 (2012-08-02) ~  Meet one of my neighbors during my stay in Seattle.  These slimy dudes were EVERYWHERE.  Ewwwww.

Day 216 (2012-08-03)
~  A toad sculpture in my mom's garden.  Pffft!  I can never tell if he looks happy or menacing.

Day 217 (2012-08-04)
~  I got a few pictures of this guy wind sailing a massive tree.  He was maybe 50 feet up that tree, leaping around the branches and wielding a chainsaw like it was nothing.  My sister got a shot better than this one though—after I'd put my camera away, the guy lit a cigarette up there and clung to the tree while smoking!  Yeesh.

Day 218 (2012-08-05) ~  Feeling blue.  Again.  Scope had gone back home to Chicago a couple of days before I shot this picture, and my baby had gone on the second part of her stay with certain estranged relatives, a three hour drive away, and I was still loitering on my mom’s couch.  It was kind of depressing, actually.  :-(

Day 219 (2012-08-06) ~   What a cutsie flower!  It took every ounce of my self control not to draw a smiley face on it.

Day 220 (2012-08-07) ~   Ugh.  Spiders.  I hate them.  HATE!!!!  While staying in Seattle, I found at least one spider in the house every single day.  Sometimes I found three before breakfast.  *shudder*  I see no reason why nature shouldn’t just stay outside where effing it belongs, like this one that I found in someone’s garden.

Day 221 (2012-08-08) ~  While out on a walk, I found this fence in dire need of a new paint job.... but, yet, I still think it looks somehow quite pretty in its own way, don't you?

Day 222 (2012-08-09) ~  While in Seattle I found out that my old favorite radio station from my high school days still plays all the old music I loved back then every Thursday morning.  They call it "Save The Wave".  They were playing Depeche Mode, Erasure, Book of Love, and all that good stuff from way back when.  So, I thought the radio dial deserved to be a picture of the day.

Day 223 (2012-08-10) ~  The blackberries in Seattle started ripening while I was still in town.  Yay!  I filled several big tubs full of them and kept them in my mom’s fridge.  Mm-mm-mmmm.  When we lived in Seattle, Wednesday and I would fill our freezer full of tubs of blackberries we picked for free in the neighborhood.

Day 224 (2012-08-11) ~  He’s sexy and he knows it.  In the grocery store with my nephew, we found a figure of the brown M&M lady standing in the candy aisle.  Of course, my LMFAO-lovin' nephew went running right over to it to do the "wiggle dance" like he was the red M&M in the commercial.  (Hee hee hee.)

Day 225 (2012-08-12)
~  Really?  Fall in Seattle?  In early August?!  Wow.

Day 226 (2012-08-13) ~  Eh.  Just a quickie for the day because I was ultra busy.  It's my mom's watering can.  Whatever.  They can’t all be good, right?

Day 227 (2012-08-14) ~  Ohhhhhhhh, the joy!  Wednesday came back from her stay with her other relatives, and my nephew and nieces were SOOOOOOOOOO excited!  A water fight AND a silly string war promptly broke out in the driveway and this is what my delighted nephew looked like as he ran, screaming, as Wednesday chased him down with her silly string can.  :-)

Day 228 (2012-08-15) ~  This was our last night in Seattle.  In some respects, the five weeks went by much faster than I had expected, but in other respects, it took FOREVER.  Wednesday and I hung out with her cousins our last night in town.  There were mixed emotions, of course, as we were simultaneously excited and relieved to be going back to our normal lives with our beloved Scope in Chicago, but we also knew we would be missing those three munchkins in the picture there.

Day 229 (2012-08-16) ~  On our flight home from Seattle, the kiddo and I passed by Mt Rainier.

More pics will be posted soon!  Hopefully, we will be all caught up by next week.  (Yay!)

And so the couch-surfing begins

Want some more Project 365 updates?  Cool. Then read on, you sexy, picture-lovin’ beast, you….

Day 186 (2012-07-04) ~  On the 4th of July, Scope, Wednesday, and I went up on our rooftop to watch the fireworks going on around us in all directions.  It was AWESOMEIt made me feel like a chimney sweep in Mary Poppins!  Unfortunately, my tripod was falling apart, so most of my pictures have a shaky look to them.  But regardless of the camera shake, I really, REALLY love this shot!  (Oh, and that rickety tripod?  My lovely hubby got me a brand new replacement one for my birthday, so next year’s 4th of July pictures will be even better.  Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!)

Day 187 (2012-07-05) ~  Eh.  I had too much on my mind this day to put a lot of effort into my Project 365, so I just shot a quickie of a flower in the community garden at a local elementary school on my way to meet Scope at the train after work.

Day 188 (2012-07-06) ~  It was right around the time I took this picture that I had to start feverishly packing my bags for a five week trip out to Seattle.  Five lonnnnnngggggggg weeks.  It was not a trip that any of us wanted to take, it was one of those complicated court-ordered thingies that we really didn’t have much of a say in, which really sucked.  Scope could only be out in Seattle for ten days out of those five weeks, so most of the summer, the poor fella was stuck home alone in Chicago;  Wednesday had to spend half of that five weeks being somewhere she really didn’t want to be, against her will, and without me and Scope;  and, in a nutshell, the Court-y powers that be sentenced me to spend five weeks sleeping on my mom’s couch, 2000 miles away from home, waiting around to rescue Wednesday if things did not go well for her where she was (more on that later).  But anyway…. the days leading up to Wednesday’s and my departure to Seattle, the three of us were definitely feeling blue, so adding a blue tint to this rainy day flower photo definitely seemed appropriate.  *sniffle*

Day 189 (2012-07-07) ~  This was my very happy baby girl after we signed the paperwork to start her Invisalign Orthodontic treatment.  Straight teeth, here we come!

Day 190 (2012-07-08) ~  Another snapshot of real life.  Remember that five week trip I told you about?  It was looming over us and about to begin in two day's time the day I took this picture, thus there was LOTS of hugging in our house as the three of us tried to give each other pep talks.  "It will go by fast.... It will go by fast.... It had damn well BETTER".

Day 191 (2012-07-09) ~  Workout shorts bokeh.... or utter laziness?  You decide.  (Hey, they can’t ALL be great pictures, okay?!)

Day 192 (2012-07-10) ~  This was the view out our airplane window as Wednesday and I started our flight from Chicago to Seattle on July 10th.  Poor Wednesday spent half the flight begging me, “please, PLEASE, don’t make me go!”  But there was nothing I could do to stop it.  :-(

Day 193 (2012-07-11) ~   This was the start of my five weeks in Seattle.  Wednesday was off staying with other people she didn’t want to be with; Scope was home alone and lonely in Chicago; and I was bumming around on my mom’s couch, feeling exorbitantly resentful towards the whole situation and Seattle in general.  Even all these months later, I still can’t quite get it how the Court-y powers that be could feel justified in forcing an intelligent and perfectly well behaved nearly-sixteen year old straight-A honor student to drop all her summer plans and go spend huge chunks of her vacation living with people she doesn’t feel comfortable being around after she had made it perfectly clear that she did not want to go.  Yeah, yeah, I get it that we are trying to repair a series of extremely broken family ties here, but I just don’t think that FORCING the poor girl into their homes and causing her to have panic attacks, stress, and other misery helps the situation in any way whatsoever.  In fact, I think it brews up even more negative feelings on top of the ones that already exist and drives the wedge even deeper.

*frustrated sigh*

But what the hell do I know, right?  Who the heck am I?  I’m just the one who is ordered to ignore her feelings, disregard her pleading, and callously shove the kid off into these situations against her will (and mine!), and then abandon my whole life in Chicago to sit around in Seattle for five weeks, on-call, waiting for the moment that the situation, inevitably, goes sour so I can pick up all the pieces and rebuild my shattered kid.

(What?  Bitter?  Does it show?)

It just seemed like an awful lot to demand of Wednesday, Scope, and me, wouldn’t you agree?  I tried not to be resentful, but it wasn’t easy.  I tried to cheer myself up by taking lots of nature walks with my camera.  It was during one of my walks that I realized that Seattle is covered in ferns.  So many, many, many ferns.  Funny, I guess I never really noticed that before.  I don't think I've seen a single solitary fern since moving to Chicago, so naturally it seemed fitting to make a fern one of my Project 365 pictures.

Day 194 (2012-07-12) ~  Okay, yes, there were some perks to being in Seattle—it wasn’t all crappy.  Like getting to spend some good quality time with my nieces and nephew!  See the boy who's second closest to the camera there?  The tall, handsome, blond eight year old dude with the bow and arrow?  That's my awesome nephew.  He invited me to his Cub Scout Camp to watch him practice archery on July 12th.  Right after this picture was taken, he shot a bulls-eye with that arrow.  And I am still beaming with pride!  :-)

Day 195 (2012-07-13) ~  On a bug hunt in the backyard with my nieces and nephew, we found an inchworm. Sooooooooo much fun!

Day 196 (2012-07-14) ~  And this is what happens when you let a two year old paint her own toenails!

Day 197 (2012-07-15) ~  Water droplets caught in a spider web.  How cool is that?  If you look closely, the droplets each kind of resemble the earth.  My niece found this in the garden and ran up to me, saying, "Cora! You should take its picture! It's your picture of the day!!!!"  I love how the kids are so excited about this picture of the day business. :-)

Day 198 (2012-07-16) ~  Just a quickie of a pansy in the garden.  (And—*sigh*—I actually took this on the 15th, not the 16th, but whatever, right?)

Day 199 (2012-07-17) ~  The weather seemed to be mirroring my mood on July 17th.  Rainy, gray, and gloomy….

I was knee-deep in stressful court crap that day and I was getting heartbreaking texts from poor Wednesday every thirty seconds or so begging me to come and get her because things had gone very wrong where she was staying.  She completely filled up my phone with her unhappy texts.  TWICE.  Of course, I didn’t have the right to just go get her, I had to wait for the permission to do so, and in the meantime, she was so upset to the point of vomiting (!!!!) over what was going on in the home she was staying in.

*eye twitch*

I probably would have puked from stress too if I had been in her position, staying in a house she didn’t want to be in in the first place, where one of the adults in charge there ended up reading our various court documents out loud to the children like perverse bedtime stories (seriously! WHAT THE F*CK?!), and where someone thought it would be a nifty idea to get all scream-y up in poor Wednesday’s face, and told her she should be ashamed for speaking up for herself in our court case and that now none of her half-siblings will ever get to go to college and it’s ALL.  WEDNESDAY’S.  FAULT.  Oh—AND their dog chewed up half of Wednesday’s possessions and no-one cared or was willing to help her replace any of it.

(Yeah.  Let that all sink in for a minute….)

(Ready to go on?  Okay….)

Needless to say, Wednesday was granted the right to come back to me early…. and—Bonus Picture of the Day—this is what her purse looked like when she was returned.

Yep, those are two grapefruit-sized holes in her purse with her chewed-to-pieces possessions falling right out of it.  (Really?!?!  Is it just me or is that just incredibly thoughtless?  If MY dog had destroyed the stuff of a guest in MY house, I would have replaced the stuff, NOT SEND THE KID HOME WITH A SHREDDED PURSE FULL OF DESTROYED CRAP AND THE DESIRE TO NEVER EVER RETURN!!!!  Wouldn’t you?!  Gah!)  Obviously, the mean words did more destruction than the dog, and the damage to the purse was nothing compared to the damage to the family ties that were supposed to be mended during the visit.

*sad sigh*

But anyway…. because I want to end this on a happy note….

Day 200 (2012-07-18) ~  The backyard of one of the houses Wednesday and I stayed in during our time in Seattle had this robust fella living in it.  Yeah, a bunny! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

More pictures and updates are on the way soon….

It’s all JK Rowling’s fault. (Well, kinda.)

You guys, sometimes blogging is just too hard.  There, I said it.  Sometimes it seems like the only way I could ever possibly get done everything I want and need and have to do is if I had a Time Turner.  AND severe insomnia.  But I don’t have either one.

(Okay, fine.  I do have a Time Turner. Happy?  But that little f*cker has NEVER worked, thankyouverymuch.  *grumble*)

(But I digress….)

The last several months have just simply been batsh*t crazy.  What with the Ohio trip; the Washington trip; all the photo editing and organizing from the zillions of pictures I took on both trips; the court crap; the post-court crap (including a two-inch thick stack of receipts and coordinating papers I am presently getting ready to mail to comply with a post-court order—oy, please don’t ask); my eBay selling and all its required running back and forth to and from the post office; juggling all our various appointments and schedules; my quest to lose the weight I’ve put on since moving to Chicago; trying to help poor Wednesday through a very, VERY difficult emotional time (*sniffle*); and having JK Rowling publish a brand spankin’ new book in the middle of it all—*whew*—well, I guess the blog just kinda got lost in the chaos for awhile.

(There there, poor, neglected blog.  Mama still loves you, I swear.)

To those of you who contacted me and Scope to ask if I am okay, thank you. I really do appreciate it.  Yes, I’m fine.  Frazzled and tired, but fine.  However, the more time that has slipped through my blog-ignoring fingers, the more I started to worry how the hell I would ever catch up on what’s been going on the last few months….

Ummm….

Hmmm….

Nope, no clue….

And then suddenly—*BAM!*—it hit me like a phone in Naomi Campbell’s house: Project 365!  I can tell you the whole whoppin’ tale in bits and pieces as I update my take-a-picture-a-day project!  Yep.  I’m still taking a picture every day, and I am only…. ohhhhhhhhhh…. four freaking months behind on posting it all here.  So, before I get even MORE behind, here is another long, lonnnnnnnngggggggggg overdue update on this year’s Project 365 with little stories of what we have been up to along the way….

Day 161 (2012-06-09) ~  “Hey! That sculpture looks like sh*t!”  Scope and I went for a quick walk along the North Shore Channel Trail on June 9th.  While on the trail we spied this monstrosity, which I'm sure inspires many a poop joke.

Day 162 (2012-06-10) ~  Scope, Wednesday, and I celebrated an early Father's Day before hitting the road for Ohio.  We went to the park for a picnic which was fun and relaxing.... until the evil pigeons showed up.  *shudder*

Day 163 (2012-06-11) ~  I just shot a quickie of a patch of mini daisies I passed while on my way to the train station to meet up with Scope after work.

Day 164 (2012-06-12) ~  Another quickie of flowers.  Oy.  I know. Sorry!  But, look, I posterized it to shake up the flow a little bit.  That was nice of me, huh?

Day 165 (2012-06-13) ~  When Wednesday was little, I used to draw faces on her oranges.  For no reason, really, but she LOVED it.  As she got older, the habit died off, but this particular day I surprised her with one again, which made her giggle.  Hey, even at 15 years old, an orange face is still awesome!

Day 166 (2012-06-14) ~  The 7th (I think….?) shot of my retro Strawberry Shortcake doll series.  This is Lemon Meringue and she still smells incredible!  Mmmmmmm.

Day 167 (2012-06-15) ~  This is a complete throwaway shot.  (Duh.)  We were hurriedly packing up our things for our vacation to Ohio and it dawned on me that I hadn't taken a picture yet that day, so I shot a super-quick snapshot of the messy scene in front of me and went right back to packing.  Just pitiful.  I know, I know.  *hanging my head in shame*

Day 168 (2012-06-16) ~  Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s off to Ohio we go.  This was the view somewhere in Indiana.

Day 169 (2012-06-17) ~  Our first full day in Ohio, we went to Ghostly Manor Thrill Center's haunted house (which was SPECTACULAR, by the way!!!!)  This dragon was lurking outside the building when we arrived.  CreeEEeeEEeepy.

Day 170 (2012-06-18) ~  Our 3rd day in Ohio, we went to Nickel Plate Beach where we saw this lanky bird slowly creeping through the water.  He crept several yards out into the lake as if he was stealthily stalking something and then inexplicably just turned around and walked right back to the shore.  Bizarre.

Day 171 (2012-06-19) ~  This was from our 4th day in Ohio where we took a boat cruise right past Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Day 172 (2012-06-20) ~  This was from our 5th day in Ohio when we toured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and saw this massive moving puppet of the "teacher" in Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall" music video looking down on us.

Day 173 (2012-06-21) ~  This was from our 6th day in Ohio when we took a look in an antique store.

Day 174 (2012-06-22) ~  This was from our 7th day in Ohio when we got up close and personal with dinosaurs inside Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Day 175 (2012-06-23) ~  This was from our last day in Ohio as we said goodbye to the beach early in the morning before hitting the road back home.

Day 176 (2012-06-24) ~  Our first morning back home in Chicago, Scope and I took a walk around the park and saw this VERY bored film crew across the street.  *snicker*

Day 177 (2012-06-25) ~  I saw this cutie playing ball at the park and couldn't resist snapping his picture.  :-)  (Okay, okay, I cheated a bit on this picture, which was taken on the 24th, not the 25th.  I was soooooo busy organizing and editing all the pics from our Ohio trip that I forgot to take a picture on the 25th.  Whoopsie!)

Day 178 (2012-06-26) ~  Yeah.  It’s a Lego genie.  And?

Day 179 (2012-06-27) ~  I thought I'd go old school with the picture this day with an old Depeche Mode record.  (And, yep, I cheated a bit on this picture too, which was taken on the 28th, not the 27th.)

Day 180 (2012-06-28) ~  This is a dragon that guards a local shop.  I love (LOVE!!) his flame-like eyebrows.  (Another cheater pic.  What with all the Ohio trip picture editing I was doing, I somehow got my days all jumbled up for a bit.  This was taken on the 29th, not the 28th.  Grrrr!)

Day 181 (2012-06-29) ~  A tornado?!  Nah.  It was just a funky cloud that passed by our deck.  It startled me for a second though, I admit it.  Yeesh.

Day 182 (2012-06-30) ~  My lovely, handsome hubby and I went out to dinner at Isla Pilipina to celebrate our 2nd anniversary a couple of days early.  (I had the teriyaki chicken and it was incredible, by the way!)  Can you believe it’s been TWO YEARS already?!

Day 183 (2012-07-01) ~  Our anniversary cake.  Mm-mm-mmmmm.

Day 184 (2012-07-02) ~  I stumbled upon this sunflower growing on the corner of a city street.  Someone's garden is conveniently in the background, making it look like this pic was taken in a field, not the streets of Chicago.

Day 185 (2012-07-03) ~  Okay, so I *CLEARLY* had the camera on the wrong settings for this shot of the moon, but I dunno, I kind of like it.  It makes the moon look like it's made of cheese.

Okay, that’s it for today.  I’ll be posting more pics soon, including shots of our summer trip to Seattle.
